HEY BOXERS…how’s your year going?
Hey Boxers! What a fantastic year I am having with YOU ALL at Escobedo M.S. I really didn’t think this year could be better than last, BUT IT IS! I am enjoying the task of learning new names, remembering old ones, and seeking out kids I never got to meet last year. What a job! Who would think that after you’re grown up you could read with kids, play with kids, learn with kids and get paid for it? It’s crazy! What a great profession education is.
The Blog that I have all but ignored from last year gave me some very insightful information. Thanks to all of you who sent me messages on how to make this school the BEST school in the valley. You told me that we have friendly teachers, helpful staff, lots of after school acitivities, and challenging work. Several of you also told me how much you enjoyed hearing my Words of Wisdom in the morning. I was so happy to hear that. I enjoy reading them and thinking about them myself.
Well, believe it or not, the first quarter is GONE. Isn’t that amazing? So, once again I need your insights. As usual, I have several questions I need you to answer for me:
*Does our school still feel friendly?
*Have you made a few new friends this year?
* Are your classes challenging enough?
*Do you feel like your teachers acknowledge good, hard work?
* Have you ever noticed a student who doesn’t have any friends? If so, have you done anything to assist him/her?
*Tell me what you love best about our library? AND….what colors do you think Mrs. Baca should paint around our windows in the library?
*If you could nominate a Teacher of the Year, who would it be and why?
*If you could give me some advice, what would it be?
*What will be on your table for Thanksgiving? (Mine will have turkey, smashed potatoes, stuffing, sweet potatoes, creamed onions, green beans with fried onions on top, cranberry relish, and gravy. Dessert is usually pumpkin cheesecake and pecan pie. We will have 12-14 people at the table. I invite that many so I will have lots of people to help with dishes after our meal (just kidding).
*What tradiditions does your family have around Thanksgiving? (My family loves to take turkey sandwiches up to Red Rock and hike over the weekend).
*What makes Thanksgiving special to you? (I love the holiday because my sisters, brother, in-laws, father and his wife all come to my house. It is truly a special time for me. These are my very favorite people to be with. They tease me, laugh with me, talk about good books, and PIG OUT).
Thanks for answering so many questions. I REALLY want to know what you think and how YOUR family celebrates this time of year. Looking forward to hearing from you.

10. I have no tradistions except for watching the parade.
Yes, Escobedo is as friendly as before. Yes, I have made two new friends. Yes my classes are deffinitialy hard enough. Yes they always acknoledge me. No I have never acknowledged a student with no friends. A bright color something that shows. I don’t want to take sides but I would choose the best. I would say to stay smart and stay in school. I don’t know what’s for Thanksgiving ecept for baked potato, sweet potato, and turkey. All we do is watch the Thanksgiving paraide and spend time with family. Thanksgiving is a time for family and that’s what makes Thanksgiving special.
November 18th, 2008 at 10:16 amI think the school feels friendly to me. Ihave made many new friends this year. Some od my classes like math are challenging but others like science are very easy. My teachers do aknowledge people with good grades. I have never seen someone with no friends. The best part about the library is the painting on the walls. I think she should paint green and blue around the walls. Iw ould nominate Ms.Fry because she is nice and makes teaching interesting.
November 18th, 2008 at 10:17 am1. This year isn’t as friendly as last year but it is still friendly.
November 18th, 2008 at 10:21 am2. Yes I have made new friends this year. (alot)
3. Yes i think they are challenging enough.
4. Ya most of my teachers do.
5. Yes i have seen a 8th grader who was new and he was sitting at the lunch table
scared and I said Hi.
6. The things i love about the library is that she plays music which makes it more
comftorble. Mrs. Baca should paint it yellow and red.
7. The teacher of the year would be Mrs. Luceroo and Mrs. Abraham.
8. That kids can pick there own schedules and we could celebrate holidays.
9. Its kinda funny becuase i have all the same things you have on my table.
10. I like Thanksgiving becuase my family comes up from Washington and my dad comes home with my sister becuase they had to move to colorado becuase the econmy. They come up every three weeks.
Yes, our school feels very friendly. I have lots of friends to hang out with, and I’m meeting all sorts of new ones.
November 18th, 2008 at 10:22 amOf Course! I’ve met awesome new friends, and I couldn’t ask for better ones. They’re the best, and I bet that we’re going to stay together for awhile.
My classes are just right, and I’m pretty confortable in them. I could use just a little more of a challenge though.
I love Escobedo MS! It is the best. The school still feels friendly and I have made lots of new friends. If I could nominate one teacher it would be Mr. Williams becuase he works really hard to get our band souning good every year!
November 18th, 2008 at 10:22 amFor Thanksgiving we go to my grandma’s house ,in town, and have dinner. One time we ate at our house, but it isn’t usual. On the table for dinner is turkey, mashed potatoes,
crannberries, bread, gravy, salad, ham and drinks.
My family eats lots of food on and invites all our relititives (that are not to far away). The turkey is always coverd in gravey. We always have our VERY TASTY brocolie salad!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love our mash potatoes and crunchy drum sticks salted and grilled to perfection!!! I like the things you do for Thanksgiving to! Good ideas no wonder you run a school!

I think that this school is way better than I thuoght it would be(middle school lunch is waaaaay better than elementary lunch). I have made plenty of freinds at tis school. All my classes do challange me but school still just comes easy. This school welcomes me in many ways and all my teachers acknowledge hard work. I haven’t noticed anyone alone because everyone is just so nice there isn’t one person who doesn’t have a freind but I’ll be on the look out. My favorite thing about the library is that she plays good music and I like movie Mondays, I think Mrs. Baca should paint the windows like a mix of gold and red. I would have to nominate Mrs. Fry because is super funny and I like the way she teaches and like talking books with her. I would say more dances and maybe even a carvinal because that could raise a good amount of money for the school. On my table at on Thanksgiving will be smashed potatoes, of course a turkey, my mom makes some really good gravy, my dad gets some rolls from the store and those are good right out of the oven. The most important thing to me during Thanksgiving is just being with my family and around that time I get to help start putting up Christmas lights.
November 18th, 2008 at 10:32 am1. Yes, I do think that it`s friendly here at Escobedo Middle School.
2. Yes i did actually, I made ton’s of new friends this year.
3.Yes, there are challenging enough.
4. No, I think that my teachers are giving me work my of age.
5. I have not seen any kids that have NO friends.
6. She plays music, and thats really cool for a librarian.
7. Mrs.Dain , because she encourages me to keep trying and don`t give up.
8. Keep trying even if you mess
up.
9. Turkey , patatoes, corn, corn bread, gravey, stuffing, ice cream, cake, ham, fryed chicken, and rolls.
10. Spending time with family/ games
11.Thanks Giving is special to me because I love speding time and eating with my family.
November 18th, 2008 at 10:34 amThe answer to your first question has to be YES! OF COURSE! This school is really friendly all the time. There are many great friends that I have met this year. Ones that I have known from fourth or fifth grade and ones that I have only known for the time period that I have been at Escobedo Middle School. The classes that I have are truley challenging such as math and science. I also do beleive that the teachers give hard and challenging work, but not too challenging that I can’t do it. I have not yet noticed a student that does not have any friends and I guess that is a good thing, right? The number one thing that I like about the library is the books that are painted on the wall. I think that you should paint the border of the windows a nice rosy red. I think that Mr. Williams should be nominated teacher of the year, because he has to deal with a large amount of kids almost every period of the day. I know that not everyone has Mr. Williams as a teacher but I personally think that he is one of the best teachers here. I don’t have any advice to give you. I think that you are running the school extremely well. Everyone seems happy to me. The delicious dinner that will be served on Thanksgiving in my home is yams, stuffing, corn, corn bread, cranberry sause, cranberry, salad, and of course TURKEY! The thing that I love the most about Thansgiving is spending time with my family and having a yummy dinner to share.
November 18th, 2008 at 10:35 amthis is school is ok. I still like Findlay better because i know people there here i dont know any one. exept a few people this school is clean
November 18th, 2008 at 2:12 pmThis year has been great. I have made lots of friends. Everyone is really nice here. Go Escobedo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
November 18th, 2008 at 2:14 pmMy first year at Escobedo has been fun. I have made several friends and done fun things. I do think the school is a safe place, but I have heard there were fights and that doesn’t make me feel as safe. My calsses have been easy but have had some challengeing parts. I’m having a great school year and there isn’t much that I would change about it.
November 18th, 2008 at 2:17 pmI think that my first year at this school has been good so far. I have made a lot of new friends from being on the cheerleading team and in my classes. My classes have come easy to me, yet they are challenging enough. I feel pretty safe here. There have been fights here, though. I like all of my teachers. I think the teachers do a good job of acknowledging good good behavior, and hard work.
November 18th, 2008 at 2:17 pmI agree with the other students this has been a great school year so far
November 18th, 2008 at 3:06 pmand i have been making new friends. when mrs. powers came up to me and asked me to make friends with a kid that was a little slow in the head, i made good friends with him every time i see him i say hi to him every time i see him, but others laugh. also for thanksgiving i will have almost everthing, but my most favorite is the apple pie mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. so thank u for two years of excellance. GO BOXERS!
If I could nominate a teacher of the of the year I would choose Mr. Oberg because he’s funny, and because he does things differently.
November 18th, 2008 at 3:09 pmDear Mrs. powers on your first question yes i do think that our school is still friendly. I do have one concern though i think that we should have a soccer team for our school. I love soccer I would play it every day every hour if I could.I tried out for cheerleading and didn’t make it. To me it wasn’t fair because they didn’t check if we could tumble and i can tumble actully very good. that wasn;t fair to me. also i thiink that we should change up our lunches, like having pizza again from pizza hut like last year.
November 18th, 2008 at 3:11 pmDear Mrs. powers on your first question yes i do think that our school is still friendly. November 18th, 2008 at 3:11 pmOk, here goes:
This school is as safe as it can possibly be. No school hasn’t gone without a fight or two during the year, so we’re doing fine there.
Wow! Who that is my friend now wasn’t already before? All of my friends this year are new or relitavely new. Unfortunately, my friends from last year weren’t really in my classes this year, so I hardly get to see them. But, on the bright side I made some new friends who are awesome and I wouldn’t ask for different friends from my newer friends or my older friends because they are already awesome!
One thing is for sure: sixth grade was harder than seventh grade, and eight grade is wwwaaayyyy harder than seventh grade. Out of all my middle school years so far, seventh grade has been the easiest, so, I’m being challenged, especially in Algebra 1 Honors. That is a really tough class to take.
My teachers are fair in acknowledging (did I spell that right?) hard work that is good. They are very fair and I have no complaints.
I’ve tried to help new kids because I know what its like to move schools (back east you usually always stay in the same place unlike here, so moving schools is harder there) and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t but I try to be nice.
The library? The best ever! Mrs. Baca is fun and lets us have fun in her library with her different activities she does and music….the music choices are good I actually want to go to the library this year. I think she should paint them in red, gold, and black stripes (nothing wrong with school colors.) Or red and yellow polka dots on a black backround. I dunno, something fun and exciting.
Teacher of the year is Mr. Williams, hands down. He goes beyond his job to help us, and he’s helped me a lot, even with Algebra
. Just today he was helping me with music that I was trying to play for an outside activity. He never stops to help us and I appreciate him for that.
.
Either him or one of the seventh grade teachers like Ms. Heintz, because she is fun and really easy to talk to. Mr. Phillips would win because he is and INSANELY awesome and good teacher. Mr. Oberg…mostly because he is Mr. Oberg and he is fun and he teaches us at the same time. If Mrs. Carlone was still here she would win for her fun and inventive discussions and projects I did in her class last year.
In eigth grade, its Mrs. Soriano-Heger because she is a good teacher and she is nice too. Mrs. Ruth would win because she is also a really good teacher and she has helped me with different things and I appreciate her for that. Ms. Martino because she got me to understand inequalities, and Miss Rivera because she is a good teacher who is very helpful and I like that she does labs in Science. Last year I didn’t really do a lot of labs and with her this year I am.
Ms. McDonald deserves it too because she is a really nice P.E. teacher who cares more about effort than skill and I like that, a lot.
In conclusion, every teacher in this school has done something to win the award but if I had to pick one it would be Mr. Williams
Keep doing what your doing Mrs. Powers your doing a great job
!
I have no clue what will be on my table for Thanksgiving, basically whatever my mom cooks, its different every year except for the turkey. But last year, I wanted to do something so I tried to make applesauce (it tasted really nasty), and when I was cutting up the apple I cut myself, so that was kind of fun, especially the part where I was bleeding
(just kidding), so my mom had to finish. Also its just going to be the people in my house because we don’t have any family out here to go anywhere for thanksgiving, or invite them to our house, so its just us
.
Our traditions? Man, ummmm, nothing is one, right? My dad has to work so we probably won’t do anything except sit at home. If we do do something I’ll let you know, but I don’t remember doing anything last year.
yummy
But a tradition for me is that I get my own Pumpkin Pie, all to myself every year!
Thanksgiving was pretty special back east, and I guess it can be special here too. It was special back east because every other year we would go to different relatives. My aunt would have my little cousin’s birthday party at the same time and we’d have fun with them and their relatives. I remember one year I learned how to play bumper pool
. That was fun. Then when we would go to my grandparents I loved the discussions we had. I argued one year with my great-grandmother because she didn’t like baseball and I love baseball
. I miss her, she’s still back east with the rest of my family that I wish I could see every day. This summer I learned how much I really missed them, and its a lot. Its actually the most I’ve ever missed them, even when I left I didn’t miss them this much.
Anyway, I haven’t found the thing to make Thanksgiving this special out here but I must say to everyone who reads this comment to just remember that its more than a day off of school, and to think of the real reason you get that day off.
so, with that I finally sign off this comment, Phew, I finally finished
